A Sense of Accomplishment...and Possibly, Disorientation

Status: I'm listening to Evanescence's first album, Fallen, because I haven't in years. Don't judge me.

Last night I finished the first draft of Untouched, the second book in the Girl in the Box series. For those of you who have read Alone and enjoyed it, that's probably good news. I'm pretty happy with it overall though it still needs some serious work (they always do) before I'd feel comfortable releasing it into the world. So it'll get a serious rewrite in about four weeks, then go to my beta readers, get another rewrite and go to final edit and release. How long will that take? I dunno. A couple months, probably.

The most exciting news about this whole thing was that due to a heavy push on the first three days and a big day yesterday (about 12.5k words) I finished the whole thing in about eleven working days. That's a good sign for a 75,000 word novel. Like I said, it still needs some serious work, but the overall story seems to be good, something I'm really pleased with and that I think will resonate with readers.

Now I'm filled with a sense of accomplishment...and perhaps a little disoriented as well. See, I have a list of the next projects I'm supposed to work on, but I'm trying to decide if I want to sneak in another Sanctuary short story before I move on to Soulless (Girl in the Box, Book 3). I don't have any concepts sitting idle in my brain right now for one of those, but I have a file of ideas that I can use as starting points. The only question is if I should play with one of those to flesh it out then write it or move on to Soulless, because the characters are fresh in my mind and Untouched ends with a slight cliffhanger (spoiler!). Also, Champion needs a final rewrite, which will be coming in the next few weeks.

That's a pretty good place to be, wondering what I should do next. That's a freedom that a great many authors don't enjoy. And I'm sorry for them, I really am. I won't write a book I don't want to write, no matter how popular the characters are. I owe my readers more than that.

Anyway, before I move on to either of those, it's time to take a couple days and do some other stuff. Max Payne 3 is crying out for my attention, as are episodes of Dollhouse (started watching season 1, I'm on episode 7 or so and it's pretty great so far. Just have to give it a couple eps to build some momentum) and Sunday night's Masterpiece Mystery - Sherlock! I also have to finally give Xenoblade some attention.

So, that's all for now. I hope everyone has a great day. I know I will.
